Breaking into IT: How I Landed an IT Platform Internship with No Experience
As someone who is new to the world of IT, I was struggling to find job opportunities that didn't require years of experience or specific qualifications. It seemed like every job posting I came across had a long list of requirements, leaving me feeling discouraged and unsure of how to break into the industry.
But then I heard about internships. Not only do they provide valuable learning opportunities, but they also offer a way for newcomers like myself to gain experience and get their foot in the door. I decided to focus my search on IT platform internships, as I was interested in learning more about this area of technology.
The first step was to start researching companies that offered IT platform internships. I visited their websites and social media pages, and read up on their company culture, values, and the technologies they used. This gave me a better understanding of what they were looking for in an intern, and helped me tailor my resume and cover letter to match their needs.
In my resume, I highlighted my technical skills and academic achievements, even though they were not directly related to IT platform. I also emphasized my eagerness to learn and my passion for technology. In my cover letter, I explained my lack of experience and how I was willing to work hard to learn new skills and contribute to the team.
After sending out several applications, I finally received a call for an interview! In preparation, I read up on the company's IT platform and made sure to practice answering common technical questions. During the interview, I was honest about my lack of experience but also showcased my willingness to learn and grow with the company.
A few days later, I received the news that I had been accepted for the internship! I was thrilled to start learning and working alongside experienced professionals in the field.
Throughout my internship, I have been able to apply the theoretical knowledge I learned in school to real-world scenarios. I have learned new programming languages, gained experience in software development, and have become proficient in IT platform tools and technologies. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow, and I know that this experience will be invaluable as I start my career in IT.
If you are someone who is new to the world of IT and struggling to find job opportunities, consider applying for an internship. It may seem intimidating at first, but it is a great way to gain hands-on experience and learn from experienced professionals in the industry. Tailor your application to match the company's needs, showcase your passion and eagerness to learn, and don't be afraid to ask questions during the interview. Who knows, you may just land your dream internship and start your journey to a successful career in IT!
